Clinical Indications in Orthopedic Trauma
Cannulated 3.5mm Herbert screw is indicated for articular fracture management, osteotomy stabilization, and joint arthrodesis across medium-to-small anatomical regions:
-
Radial Head & Neck Fractures: Mason Type II and Type III fractures, including articular shear splits where conventional screws cause impingement on the proximal radioulnar joint (PRUJ) or capitellum.
-
Capitellum & Trochlea Shear Fractures: Bryan-Morrey coronal shear fractures of the distal humerus requiring subchondral headless stabilization from anterior-to-posterior or posterior-to-anterior.
-
Complex Scaphoid & Carpal Trauma: Large-frame scaphoid waist fractures, recalcitrant scaphoid non-unions, and intercarpal midcarpal fusions.
-
Distal Fibula & Malleolar Articular Fragments: Chaput, Wagstaffe, or small posterior malleolar (Volkmann’s) avulsion fragments requiring low-profile compression.
-
Foot & Ankle Osteotomies and Trauma: Navicular, cuboid, and talar neck fractures; chevron osteotomies; Akin osteotomies; and subtalar/midfoot arthrodesis.
-
Patellar & Condylar Osteochondral Fragments: Chondral shear fractures and small coronal split fragments in the knee joint.
