3.5mm Herbert Screw

3.5mm Herbert Screw | Orthopedic Trauma Implants

Clinical Indications in Orthopedic Trauma

Cannulated  3.5mm  Herbert screw is indicated for articular fracture management, osteotomy stabilization, and joint arthrodesis across medium-to-small anatomical regions:

  • Radial Head & Neck Fractures: Mason Type II and Type III fractures, including articular shear splits where conventional screws cause impingement on the proximal radioulnar joint (PRUJ) or capitellum.

  • Capitellum & Trochlea Shear Fractures: Bryan-Morrey coronal shear fractures of the distal humerus requiring subchondral headless stabilization from anterior-to-posterior or posterior-to-anterior.

  • Complex Scaphoid & Carpal Trauma: Large-frame scaphoid waist fractures, recalcitrant scaphoid non-unions, and intercarpal midcarpal fusions.

  • Distal Fibula & Malleolar Articular Fragments: Chaput, Wagstaffe, or small posterior malleolar (Volkmann’s) avulsion fragments requiring low-profile compression.

  • Foot & Ankle Osteotomies and Trauma: Navicular, cuboid, and talar neck fractures; chevron osteotomies; Akin osteotomies; and subtalar/midfoot arthrodesis.

  • Patellar & Condylar Osteochondral Fragments: Chondral shear fractures and small coronal split fragments in the knee joint.

Product Featured

Differential Thread Pitch Compression

Designed with a wider, coarser thread pitch at the leading distal end and a tighter, finer pitch at the trailing proximal end. Each full revolution draws the distal fragment closer to the proximal fragment at a controlled rate, generating uniform, high-load interfragmentary compression without relying on an external screw head.

True Headless Countersinking

Embeds completely subchondral or flush with the articular cartilage surface, maintaining smooth articular joint gliding, preventing mechanical conflict with opposing articular surfaces, and eliminating extensor/flexor tendon irritation.

Cannulated Trajectory Precision

The continuous longitudinal cannula allows insertion over a 1.1 mm – 1.25 mm calibrated guide wire under C-arm fluoroscopy, enabling minimally invasive percutaneous surgery, preserving periosteal blood supply, and ensuring exact trajectory alignment across complex articular fractures.

Dual Self-Tapping Flutes

Precision reverse-cutting flutes on both the leading and trailing threads clear bone debris during advancement, lowering peak insertion torque, minimizing micro-fracture risks, and removing the need for a secondary bone tap.

Anti-Cam-Out High-Torque Recess

Deep-broached StarDrive (T10/T15) or 2.5 mm hexagonal drive recess ensures dependable driver engagement, eliminating cam-out and stripping during deep intra-articular seating or future implant retrieval.

Traceability

High-definition laser marking on the unthreaded central shank displays diameter, length, and batch lot numbers for 100% OR tracking and implant vigilance compliance.
